I had a S&G kayak that was painted with Interlux paint. ($30 a quart). Several coats and a lot of drying time and sanding. When I modified the deck and cockpit coaming after a few years of use I repainted it with spray paint from a can (paint for plastics $5 a can) and it worked well. Easy to use, drys quickly, no sanding between coats. You can use multiple colors, easy touch up later. I ended up changing the paint scheme several times. Much faster (and cheaper) than using enamel or epoxy paint. Underneath the red spray paint is the teal coat of enamel. The green on the deck was applied over top of the varnish.
