Hi all,
I had a quick and impatient maidenvoyage in my build and posted an update on that. I've fixed the discrepancies and been on the water twice since. Eventually the weather got sunny with no wind, and .. alas .. a tour without problems. It stayed dry for 3 hours, but I'm pretty sure that I'm not all done with the rear deck. I think that I passed my posibillities for mending the chine-folds .. the cloth are glue-able on one side only, and I already reinforced that area. I think that it takes some 'speed' .. and it doesn't look very professional.
My design works fine, but it's a pain to pack and assemble. The bag with the harness solves the packing, but assembling is a nuisance. The total 15 kg are no obstacle for biking/walking locally/regionally. I'm pretty confident that it's secure, but I havn't yet been toying with it yet. I've looked close at other kayaks .. yes, the original 40 cm between the chines is way too small. I's ajusted to 46 and I havn't yet met anyone on the water that is slimmer, so the 'instabillity' was not a fig of my imagination.
Quiz:
I've made a pair of accessories .. the bamboo sticks (see pick).. can anyone guess what it's for? As a do-it-yourself kayak'er, I'm not tied too close to conventions, and it's supposed to help me on one of the mayor problems for a newbie ;o)
Cheers
