Good point, let's not forget the basics.

My favorite basic tool is my cutting table. I build mostly in ply and the table goes well with my panel saw. The panel saw is fast and accurate. The blade is only 3-1/2" so it cuts curves easily. The cutting table is a simple ladder frame topped with 2" insulating foam board. The foam has a high coefficient of friction so ply stays put and the foam does not damage the saw blade's teeth. The shallow cuts in the surface don't make much difference so I get several boats out of each foam sheet. I planned to get the workshop insulated over a period of time with the "used" foam but a builder did it instead, so I guess I'll add some more insulation to the basement when it comes time to replace.
