Hi Jennifer. It's great to have another lady on the forum. Helps keep us civilised.
The quickest method is probably a sharp chisel. Don't push it by hand. Just tap, tap, tap it lightly with a hammer.
With your next S & G, don't fill in right up to or under the wire, just between them, then pull out the wires and fill in the gaps where the wires were.
