Fiberglass/epoxy will have plenty of strength... I thought about using carbon fiber for the hatch lip since have some scrap CF.
If you do carbon fiber to build the layers, I would do it similar to building carbon fiber cockpit. I would layer your carbon fiber with between fiberglass layers.
Maybe you do a 4- 6 layers..... start with one layer of CF, one layer of fiberglass, one layer of CF, one of fiberglass, one layer of CF...etc.
