I've installed two of them. The first on a Guillemot. I just cut off a couple inches of the tip, made a flat on the topside, and drilled clear down through and out the bottom. The pin was long enough I could still use the split ring in the hole at the bottom of the pin to prevent it lifting. It worked fine. Sorry, no pics, I don't have that boat any more. On my second boat I bought the bracket. I think that came out more elegant and would buy the bracket again.
