Don't take him to serious, he is kidding!? A seal coat may reduce the absorption of epoxy into the wood and it is really a good way to even out the wet out process during glassing but you wont absorb so much you will gain POUNDS on POUNDS. Keeping the epoxy from pooling in the inside and keeping the epoxy from floating the glass is much more important. I think I used an extra gallon of epoxy on the inside of my first build. And I am not kidding about that.

I still have my original boat and I think I will cut it in half and strip it to the cedar to remove about 15 lbs. Re-glassing with 4 OZ.
