Since you mentioned the dyes: do you know anything about their UV-resistance? that was the initial reason why I went for the Behlen stuff since most dyes seem to fade very willingly.

The ColorFX Dyes are 'acid' dyes, as I recall, but I have no idea of their light-fast properties (it often depends on the colour also). I don't like using dyes and stains and I've only used the ColorFX stuff for sunburst guitars (a phase I've 'gotten over'... :-) ) and I certainly wouldn't use a dye or stain on anything like a kayak that could be in direct sun.

I built a coffee table 30 yrs ago and dyed it emerald green before applying a lacquer topcoat. It's still in the living room, but has faded a lot over the interval (like its builder!).
