Jennifer, you won't be working as fast or efficiently as someone like Rob. I would suggest coming back to squeegee excess resin before you reach the halfway mark.

I tend to start about four feet from an end (maybe a quarter of the length) of the boat and work towards the end. Then I go back to the start point and work in quarter sections toward the other end. That way you are not worried about having a wetted area going off before you can get back to it.

Once I have done the first quarter I move right on to the next quarter while the first bit is wetting out, by the time I have done the third quarter the first quarter may be ready for excess resin to be gently squeezed out, then I move on to the end, come back to squeeze out the second quarter, then have a cup of tea, then squeeze out the rest.

If your workshop is warm enough the cloth will go completely transparent, so you will know when it is fully wet out and ready for excess removal.

Glassing with is epoxy is one of those things which is worse in the imagining than it is in practice. You actually have more time than you think. Take your time and don't panic and you will be fine.

In the photo you can see what six ounce glass looks like after excess has been removed. You can see and feel the texture of the cloth in the resin quite clearly in oblique light. Four ounce cloth will have less grain, but it should still be evident unless it is a very fine weave.
