The philosophy of an end pour to have a solid end block in the boat is not the issue. It's the logistics of doing it and possibly weight too. If you do an end block out of wood and drill a hole in it and allow water to infiltrate, yes it will rot eventually. I coat my grab hole end blocks with epoxy using a Q-tip and several coats. Some people even epoxy in a poly tube.
