One thing that's not normally done on these boats and probably should be done is to check the moisture content of the wood used before they are coated with epoxy. As I remember and my memory recently isn't wonderful, a moisture content less than 15% will generally insure that the wood won't rot once covered. If the moisture content is high to start with, you've just sealed it into the wood and the epoxy will promote the rot rather the prevent it.
