For those lengths of wood, best would be two scarfs one in the forward end of the hull and one at the aft end. Lots less curvature there in most designs so the scarfs matter less there. That said, if the scarf is done properly and it doesn't have to be tricky just long enough and fitted well, the scarf should be a strong as the rest of the wood.
