Hi Dan,

I'd guess the stripper to be more stiff in the longitudinal direction while the ply one would be stiffer in the transvers with half (or nearly so) the grain running at 90 degrees.

Btw, no reason that a hard chine boat can't be built as a stipper, many of Tom Yost's boats have been built as stippers and my own Disko Bay by Rob Macks is nearly a hard chine boat has a very tight radius chine.
