Have you thought about doing a 2nd layer in a long football shape on the bottom of the hull rather than and entire 2nd layer? Just an additional layer for abrasion resistance. And a 2nd layer just under the cockpit area from the rear bulkhead to the front bulkhead only on the floor of the boat. The boat will not come apart with 3.2 oz. especially if you wet it out good.

Also, filling the weave adds strength too. So the outsides of the boat will be stronger as you fill the weave. I usually fill the weave on the floor of the cockpit from the seat forward so when I slide in it's smooth.
