Do you have a fence on your drill press? Can you clamp the workpiece to the table? The key to preventing wander is to have something to support the workpiece so that it cannot move, then feed the bit into the piece slowly. You may need to use a high speed on the bit, but I would test various speeds to see what gives you the best cut with a slow feed rate. I would lean toward using the Forstner bit.

I clamped a fence onto the drill press table, I was using it to keep the spacing from the edge the same. Because of the curve i couldn't see an easy way to clamp and keep them flat against the table under the drill bit. Now that I have slept on it and read your post, I see that if I rotate the table so I am drilling next to the edge, I can clamp it down. Then my only issue is the bit, and if the point goes through. I may need to buy a different bit.
