You'll need a spray skirt for the boat and you can't do that with a high seat back, won't fit. Ideally you'd learn the right way and learn to sit up straight and not need a seat back at all, but few do that. A back band is the norm, it's detailed in the book btw.

Most carve their own seats from minicell foam, not all that hard to do and relatively inexpensive. The lower the seat the more stable the boat, you'll never want one more than an inch high maximum, lower is better unless you're racing, which you arn't.
