From what I have read, the company that made Royalex was bought by another company, which was bought by another company. As frequently happens (way too frequently) when the final company bought it, Royalex was not the product that they wanted the second company for, and since it is a small product, not very profitable, and with no way to easily make it profitable, they just got rid of Royalex. Happens all the time in "big business" nowadays.
It is plastic. It is made of oil. The clothes you are wearing, even if they're cotton or wool or some other natural fiber, contain some amount of oil. Did you know that there is enough oil in the production of just 14 plastic grocery bags to propel the average American car one mile?
