what works for me is using the bulkhead installed at an angle for the foot brace . it is glassed in on the top and sides and sealed at the bottom with marine sealant. leave the bottom 1/8 shy of touching to prevent distortion. then use a small beckson plate in the bulkhead for cleaning and inspection. this eliminates the need for foot braces and is so comfortable. i have two petrels and everyone wants to use the bulkhead brace one instead of the foot brace one. be sure to drill a small hole in the beckson to release pressure. do not use the snap fit, use the screw in ones. foot braces are heavy. the beckson plate means no hatch is needed.i use mine in the ocean and this setup is so easy to clean no need to try and wash sand out of the foot brace sand trap.
