what works for me is using the bulkhead installed at an angle for the foot brace

A very good idea!My three strippers all have this feature and are very comfortable.Damn hard getting the top and bottom edges close to the hull and deck for gluing but worth it.Diminishes floodable volume too.
A "sock"box also works for me!Well, I don't wear gloves much.
