I am surprised at so few opinions.
I personally have bought into the epoxy theory of excluding the water.
So epoxy at a minimum is my opinion.
Epoxy is not very abrasion resistant, but glass/ epoxy is much better.

If you decide to follow the West system philosophy then either glass for less work later on or just epoxy but always repair any scrapes or chips.
Glassing the inside very far into the boat will be so hard I wouldn't do it. I'd rather build a new boat and do it "right" to start with.
At the very least, paint everything. Epoxy would also have to be painted or varnished with spar varnish, because it degrades fairly quickly in the sun.
My choices for paint would be boat paint (most expensive, best), oil based (I keep looking for a good source), porch paint (even if it is latex), or exterior latex - last.

Anything is better than raw wood. I forgot, some people oil wood. The last one I read about was someone who had to extensively rebuild after ~1 year. Personally I don't know why you bother.

All that should get some other opinions. We have a group who don't want epoxy for any reason. To each his own. They can explain their reasoning.

Basically you can decide how long you want the boat. Then figure what it is worth to you to keep it that long.
Have you looked at the cost of a CLC kit? They hover at around $1000 + the work you (someone) did.

Good luck.

Marc
