I will NEVER again use DuPont Tyvek tape when I run out of fiberglass packing tape. I was taping the hull of the Baidarka together and ran out of packing tape when I was 3/4 of the way through. The tape is used to join the Tyvek vapor barrier house wrap in building construction. I had some of the Tyvek sitting around and used it to run the long strip along the seem of the port side of the boat.
Total disaster: it sticks like nothing I have ever seen before, and the adhesive is as strong as the mylar backing, hence the backing tears easily and repeatedly. When I finally got most of the backing off the hull it was covered with adhesive residue. To soften it, I tried denatured alcohol, acetone, mineral spirits, lacquer thinner, citrus solvent, WD40, and worst of all Strypeeze. The Strypeeze softens the epoxy and the glass cloth now shows in the area I tried. I finally put lacquer thinner on a paper towel and covered it with aluminum foil for 20 minutes and found that I could wipe off the adhesive with only minor damage to the epoxy layer. Took an entire day to get that stuff off one 17' hull deck seam.
