I think the glue stick rage is just a fad. I believe in good old plastic tube, obtainable through eBay by the kilometre (or 5/8ths of a mile if you prefer), in various diameters. No risk of breaking off in the hole.

The stuff I use is 1/4 inch inside and 3/8 inch outside diameter, (I measured it), and it makes a neat but useful hole.

I leave a long end and a short end through the deck. I remove the plastic tube by cutting the short end flush with the deck, grabbing the long end with the jaws of a long pliers, and using a block of wood to protect the deck, roll the tube around the plier jaws and keep levering the end of the pliers against the wood block and rolling as it stretches. Do this slowly and the plastic tube stretches until it just pops right out. No Teflon tape required.

You can do it by just pulling madly without the block, but using the block makes the pop out a lot less dramatic.

Ps the coax seen here inside the tube is theoretically to stop the plastic tube from collapsing, but it is probably unnecessary.
