Two things about how much time you will spend.
Using staples takes less time that "staple-less" construction. Staples leave visible marks if you are going to let the wood show. I believe only the most detail minded observer really notices them. But Staple-less leaves a "smoother" more appealing surface - at the cost of a lots of work. Staples also insures you have a consistently smooth contour. My attempt at stapleless did not leave as smooth of a controur, requiring more sanding. Remember that it is much more difficult to get the inside smooth. if you don't you will pour a lots of epoxy into the glass - in order to fill gaps.
Painting the boat allows much less detail effort in the placement of strips, and how you repair gaps between your strips. Not that I will do the next one with paint, the wood is just too nice to look at.
