hi,

having tried most over years (to fix this prob) i'd like to point out that adding weight to the stern - by any method - will also make the kayak slower and/or heavier to paddle. This may well be because the flow on the stern half is turbulent, and a deep stern creates more drag than a deep bow, where the flow in best cases is laminar.

This is unfortunate for the weathercocking problem, and suggests either a skeg - adjustable - or a rudder. My choice is the rudder, because there are those roque waves that will push a kayak off course. This can't be helped with a skeg but is easily corrected with a rudder.
