It needs to be fairly symmetrical or it looks a bit odd.

I would make new paper template matching the partial line you already have.

Either fold the paper over so that you cut both side of the paper at once or else make a half template, trace one side and then re-position the template on the other side of the kayak and draw the other half.

The exact shape isn't critical, but being the same on both sides is.
