Tandem's tend to not be the lightest boats to start with, Hydrotek vs. Okoume adds considerable weight, it's about 35% heavier. Once you're in the water it probably won't matter much, getting it to the water might not be much fun though.
Personally if I were to build at tandem and want to keep the cost down to a minimum I'd build it SOF, can be done for much less money and will be considerably lighter.
