Hi Rob,
You might try playing around with polyester fabric: http://sweetcomposites.com/Polyester.html
I doubt though that it'll wet out clear though.
Polypropylene is still available, but the trick is to find a supplier that'll sell it in small quantities, most fabric suppliers like big quantities, several hundred yards to make running it worth while.
