The dark wood is the 1/4"x1/2" spline.
The deck and hull strips have 1/4"x1/4" slots.
The spline is bonded into the hull strip before attaching the deck.
The top of the spline is rounded for easy assembly.
The outside 1/2" is planed away after bonding the deck to the hull.
