Well so far I like the polyurethane (I'm using Gorilla Glue) more than a PVA emulsion (Tite-Bond et al.). The advantages appear to be that it has a longer working time than a PVA, and I think it fills gaps better as it foams up. It sands nicely as well. I have learned that you can prevent the black adhesive layer from forming on your fingers (which can take almost a week to wash off) by vigorously rubbing in GoJo immediately after you finish applying a strip. The down sides are it is more expensive, and has a shorter shelf life.

I tried Gorilla Glue several years ago. The gap filling was nice to have back then as I didn't have the precision tools and skill for boat building and I recall how easy it was to sand, but I don't remember the black goo. If it foams a lot it doesn't have much strength but you don't need that much just to hold strip together. It tended to push parts apart if they weren't clamped, it was also more expensive than epoxy but came in tiny quantities for the small jobs. Tite-bond III, which I have used since, only gives you about 10 minutes although diluting it with 10% water will extend that 2 or 3 times without significantly weakening the joint.
