The guy was fishing from a kayak with his feet dangling. The shark bit his foot and he bled out. Very sad. My heart goes out to him and his family. Life is short. Enjoy every minute.

Not quite related to this type of injury, but I will never forget when once we were out fishing (on a big boat) and I had a tuna on the line. We saw a shark coming for the tuna and the shark dove down, then suddenly he came up completely out of the water, rotated in the air, and hit the tuna from the top. I will never forget that moment at which I said, "#%$@, I am not as safe as I thought I was in a kayak. That thing could jump up and get me from the top!" I got the tuna in and there were tooth marks 2" deep and each tooth mark was separated by over an inch. This guy's mouth was huge. He got just the tail portion but his bite started just aft of the gills and left gashes down the side. I kept the tuna in my freezer for a long time to show to unbelievers. It let me see how even if it didn't take your appendage off, just the gashes from the teeth would be like multiple slicing knife wounds. You would bleed out in very little time.
