Be real.
Tippyness is only a factor when you tip the boat (or in waves).

Getting "real" and still off the original thread.
Primary stability is not worth much to me when on the ocean compared to secondary,as long as I can eat my lunch and drink my beer in a quiet spot, on the water somewhere.
I mastered the limited primary stability of my Firestar on flat water but I was concerned that this sensitivity would translate into a sure roll over when I ventured into the smallest of chop.I was pleasantly surprised that the boat virtually locked up in these waves and I became reassured when I realized I was experiencing the effect of a high secondary stability a myth to me up until this revelation.
I reasoned,in my fumbling way, that the wave tops all around the hull were cupping the flared boat above the natural waterline and holding it upright,more or less.I also reasoned that those waves were not rolling the boat as I feared because the lack of primary stability was allowing the waves to slip by without gripping the hull.Just like paddling a barrel ,once you've mastered the rolling issue on flat water then any waves would not have a rolling effect on my barrel.I know the barrel has no secondary stability, oh, unless it is half full of cold treacle maybe?
I have found myself in big [for me] clapotic seas and although my heart is constantly in my mouth, I found that I have no serious trouble keeping upright,just allot of heaving up and down with lumpy water everywhere.
