Kayaks were invented by aboriginal people who put their kayaks together without any modern materials like screws, plywood or epoxy. Their means of measurement was anotomical, mostly using hands and arms as units of measure.
All this was spelled out in a book clled "Building Skin on Frame Boats" by Robert Morris. It quickly went out of print because of poor sales but it is holy bible of skin on frame construction. If you can afford the current price for a copy ( they are not cheap) you will have what you need to build using a limited amount of resources.
Robert Morris has such a profound knowledge of the original SOF tecniques he has gone to the Artic to teach modern Inuits how to buid the boats their ancestors invented.
