Hi Rob,
The local boating traditions are centered purely on fishing as you can see from the photos below:


Portugal, where i live also has no small boat tradition. Only fishing and there is a thriving kayaking community there.
I would like to take it one small step at a time. Hence my quest for easy to build boats for strict beginners.
The coast is very barren as you might have seen but the sea is pretty calm except on the odd day when the wind gets exceptionally strong.
