The petrel is upswept in the bow and stern so lay bungee cord along the perimeter of the deck then use your finger to push down the cord at regular intervals. This will help you figure out how many fasten points will be necessary prevent the line from being to proud of the deck. I like to paddle mine first to figure out the layout of paddle park and cross straps ect. It is important to get the paddle park close but not so close as to nick your hand while paddling. I tape off the fasten points and apply many coats of varnish first. Then apply the the last coat after the bungee and line anchors are installed and have fun watching the varnish unload off the brush around the tie downs.
