I have built from full sized CLC plans and from old style CLC measurement and extrapolation with pins and a baton plans.

The CLC plans I have used were spot on accurate. I tap in pins along the lines, between three inches and a ft apart depending on curvature, then pull the sheet off the pins and run a batton, or a flexible ruler for the sharper curves, around the pins to join the dots. The batton will give you the hint if you need to double check a pin that is out.

Here is a picture of scarf cut with a plane. It is about two ft in from the stern, you can see the where the grain in the wood changes. It is not that difficult to get a pretty perfect join with a scarf.
