Strip: Fire Star *PIC*

The hull of my Fire Star build is ready for outside glassing at last.
I colored it with water based ecoline dye. A mix of red, brown and yellow. When I was finished with the color I did not like it at all. Also I discovered that the preparation before sanding was not done well enough. There were spots where the glue was still visible. The dye was not absorbed enough in the wood. Also the last sanding was done with 120 grid and not smooth. So I sanded it all off.
To my estonishment I sanded through the strips at the connection with the tail part on the portside off the hull.
I repaired it as good as I could. The tailpart is also very thin at that side so I stop sanding there. The wood at that place is not good enough for a transparant layup so I will paint the tailpart black after glassing. The two keelstrips in the tail will be left transparant.
The name of the boat will become "zwart gatje" which is Dutch for "little black bud".

I had a lot of problems in planking the hull. The poplar strips (black poplar) where very sloppy and I could not get a good fair keel at the start. I use a much stiffer strip of WRC to keep the first 10 srips fair during glue setting. That worked ok but very slow. I like Nicks every foot stations better. Here they are much wider from each other.

I did not make pictures during the process and regret that. Below are some picture of the colored hull and after the sanding it all off.
I also applied an extra keelstrip at the stern. I don't want a skegcase in the hull. I need every inch of
space for camping gear. Always put the small pocket with pins for the tent at the end of the stern.
With a skeg case I will get problems with that.

Pictures below. not as good as the 'professional builders' but I look forward to paddling this thing.
