That is why I pour the whole lot out along the keel and spread it all in one to. Can't get shallower than that. If you are applying with a roller then a tray would be used. For actual mixing, one gets a better mix if one is mixing in a slightly deeper rather than wide bottomed container.

I do epoxy work pretty much the way Et describes. Once the epoxy is spread out, your working time really increases dramatically - unless it's 100F in your shop (I did some epoxy work in a hot summer barn a few times....)
One advantage of using a bit larger container than a paper cup- I use 750g yogurt containers or something similar - is that with a bigger container you can get your (auto body) squeegee inside the container to scrape out most of the epoxy. (Inverting the emptied container to drip on to the glass is also something I do... ;-) )
I can usually mix a few batches in a container before I notice it starting to get a bit 'tacky' inside, then I switch to a fresh container.

Off-topic: some pics here have shown full-width fiberglass draped lengthwise over the hull and left untrimmed before epoxying. I usually drape the cloth on a bit of a diagonal (on the bias, the cloth conforms to curves better). Trimming before epoxying (leaving a few inches of overhang) usually provides a couple of long triangles of cloth that will serve to glass the interior ends. Or, you can cut bias strips for taping from those offcuts. It can save quite a bit of cloth waste.
I always end up with drips when I epoxy the outside of a boat (hull or deck), which ruins any untrimmed cloth.
