I am planning on building a microBootlegger for my Daughter and son in law.
The are smaller people 5' and 5'4" and a total of about 270#.The concern is that the 27" beam and ~540# capacity are both bigger than needed. Height of the cockpit rim might also be higher than comfortable.
Marc,
As a tandem 27" is fairly narrow (Tandem kayaks are often over 30"), but I found it stable enough that I could mount the seats fairly high, this compensated for the relatively high coaming.
The design works quite well in a wide range of displacements. The capacity of 540# is a maximum, but the design paddles quite well with a solo paddler less than 200#.
That said, scaling it down is not out of the question, and for a couple lightweight paddlers may be a good option.
