You will usually be able to see the weave when it's compete, not really distinct but it's not like E glass where it completely disappears.
For me, unless the laminate can be vacuum bagged or some other resin control is used, using a fabric other than E glass is just for show. A resin rich laminate with any high tech fiber won't be any better than just using regular glass. Have to have both a near ideal resin to cloth ratio and the high tech fabric for it to be worthwhile, IMHO.
Of course I've used carbon fiber hand layed up just for show, but that's a whole different topic :)
