Skin-on-Frame: Yost SeaBea - question about differences in plans

I am the coach of a group of about 15 Varsity Scouts. We are building a mini-fleet of SeaBees this winter for our high adventure this summer (the Escalante Arm of Lake Powell). I have some questions about the Yost plans:

1. Can we use Western Red Cedar for the stringers? In the plans, he says he used redwood for the SeaBee and WRC for the SeaRider and Nakumi. I presume he is just indicating what he used, not mandating that we use one wood over the other. We would prefer to use WRC.

2. If we use the Multi-chine offsets, what size are the stringers? I was a little confused about the stringer measurements in other parts of the manual. It was for the single-chine Seabee, use __; for the multi-chine searider, use __. " So, since the new offsets for the Seabee are multi-chine, i'm not sure which dimensions to use.

I also posted on the "Yost Yahoo Group," but I'm interested to see what input y'all have

Thanks. I look forward to your responses.

Dave
