I'll let those better qualified comment on the merits of each approach. I needed to build in my garage, and also want to park my car in the garage. I built my strongback to be able to move it around the garage - diagonally across it to work on the kayak, pushed to one side to get my car back into the garage. It's on 5" casters, with those on one side locking casters. The basic strongback is a plywood box beam, as described in Nick's book. Since the garage is not heated I added eight light fixtures with incandescent bulbs (60W, except 40W at bow and stern). These helped the wood glue when I was stripping and is now helping the epoxy as I am glassing. During the stripping phase I'd place canvas drop cloths over the kayak when I finished work for the day, to hold the heat in.

Soon after starting the stripping I added 2x6s on each side for work surfaces.

Now I'm using a "tent" to hold the heat in.

None of these were original ideas. Thanks to all who contribute to this forum. I've mined some great ideas from your suggestions.
