Hi Lynden, Welcome to a great forum, I have 2 Night Herons one 18' the other I scaled down to 16', both are great boats in rivers and calm waters but on a long crossing in heavy chop and quartering wind you will get very tired paddling on one side because of windcocking and leecocking so if it was my build I would install a retractable skeg before the deck goes on much easier than later.
