Not by a long shot the first to try this, for one example there used to be a fiberglass inboard runabout that had wood looking gel-coat, was a nice job but people who wanted a wood boat bought a wood boat and those that wanted fiberglass weren't willing to pay double for a fancy gel-coat job.
