I just finished using this technique to join hull to deck of the my Great Auk. It really simplifies the process and allowed me use 2" tape which should save a bit of weight. I was going to post on this, but I could not recall where I got the idea. Thanks for saving me the research.
I did have some other variations to the idea. I used CA glue with accelerator, and oriented the tape such that the selvedge was inside the hull.
I also applied epoxy to the hull side of the tape and let it cure to the green state. This allowed me to slice the selvedge off with a carving gouge, before taping the hull and deck together.
