Greetings.
First - thank you all who contribute here for the depth and breadth of knowledge and experience.
Last year I built my first boat, a Yost Nikumi 19, and have been learning to paddle.
She's 18'4 x 19.75 and 27lbs. Birch ply and cedar, clear 20 mil PVC skin.
I have the skin off for some renovations now, and would like to add a skeg.
I need some advice.
- How large? How wide, how deep, what shape?
- What shape for a cross-section? NACA? (which #?)
- How can I best attach to the frame?
- How to keep the whole thing watertight?
I've considered fixed and pocket styles, and can't make a decision yet.
Most of my paddling is on larger lakes. (Ontario, Simcoe, Skeleton, Fairbanks - Killarney next summer)
Please let me know your thoughts.
Thanks and regards,
- Mike
