Btw, a sub 20" boat for the first boat is going to feel tippy regardless of what you do with it. There's only so much stability you can get with a boat that narrow. My Sea Ranger though felt very unstable until I got it in shallow water and tried to get it to tip over, it's primary stability is absolutely amazing, once I found this out I relaxed and it became much more fun.
