Flotation- you could probably fit flotation air bags in the ends of the boat (the whitewater style aren't very large, or you could DIY ones to fit exactly).

For our girls' SOF's we stuffed a couple of empty wine bladders in each end. Each one holds 5L of air, about 11 lbs of positive flotation. They even include a built-in plastic valve.
