Finally back to working on the skeg again. I tried to hand layup a single piece of carbon fiber around the skeg blades. The results didn't turn out to well so I've started over. I'm now making the skeg blades in two pieces that can be glassed separately and then glued together.
I also wasn't happy with the black epoxy on the cherry control knobs. So I've bought some wenge and started over on those.
I've sourced all the other necessary tubing, cable, hose, and set screws.
This past weekend I successfully made the control boxes. One out of Spanish cedar for the wife's boat and one out of basswood for mine.
I used the control box template to cut a hole in my practice deck (same one used to practice inlay for the Celtic heart). Very happy with the results.
