Could also do the graphite/silica mix thing but am sceptical on the graphite sliding over impact theory but folks seem to be getting decent results with it and easy to touch up....
My thoughts are: Carry on doing what your doing.
when it gets "too messy" down there,make another boat, as you are doing.I do, with 5, now[for different reasons].I have not bothered trying to fend off the effects of rock oyster landings with high tech coatings.I still wince when I collect them."Oh well".
I put clear tape with acrylic glue over my scratches to delay water soaking in.Works well,too well in fact....
Refinish your North star at your leisure.They are a great design,you would miss it.If the wet wood has gone black you are too late for a cosmetic refurb, unless you're into glass off and wood work.
