Depending on the grain orientation, (most want edge grain strips) why would you just not cut 1/4 or 3/16 inch strips off the edge of the 3/4 inch thick board. If the grain is not oriented right, then you might want to cut off 3/4 or 5/8 wide strips off the boards and then flip to cut the 1/4 or 3/16. Second method will mean more wastage of material. Then there are others don't mind flat sawn strips and cut so that they can book match the grain pattern in side by side strips.
